There is no "game over" for a lost fight, so even bad experiences teach players how to improve. There is nothing wrong with forcing the player out of their comfort zone and making them adapt new formations. My first fight with her went badly, but I retreated and went back with a more flexible team. In no way does it require an insanely specific team, it requires you not to have a team overly focused on front row attacks and that can work with a man down.
